So,

You need some help packing your carry on. Well, that is why I am here! I love finding good deals on flights, but they aren’t really “deals” when you have to pay $50 or more for your luggage. Over the past few years, I have gotten better and better at packing my carry on and I’m here to share some tips that work for me. I hope it helps!

The key to packing light is to only bring what you actually need.

You will not wear/use the things that are “extra”. When I have packed “extra” clothes, I still would only wear my favorite outfits on trips. I have learned over the past year that it’s smart to be picky with what you bring. You could probably even bring less clothes than what I have listed below, but while I try to be picky and minimal, l also like to be comfortable.

Below I have listed out what I pack for a 10 day trip. This works for me, so I hope it can help you save some money on all those crazy baggage fees, and yet still allow you to bring all you need in your carry on!

First things first. Wear your thickest clothes and shoes onto the airplane.

For me that is usually my workout shoes, jeans and a cardigan (in the fall/winter). This is a must for me. It usually helps me have extra room in my carry-on!

Airplane Clothes

7 Shirts:

  • Striped Shirt
  • Grey Shirt
  • Black Tank Top
  • Black Shirt
  • White Shirt
  • Workout Tank Top
  • A Shirt to Sleep in

Keep in mind, you will be wearing shirt #8 on the plane, so I am going to be packing all 7 in my bag.

5 Bottoms:

  • Skirt
  • Dark Colored Jeans
  • 1 Pair of Overalls
  • Pair of Work Out Shorts
  • Bottoms to Sleep In

3 Jackets:

  • Jean Jacket
  • Sweatshirt
  • Raincoat

You might not need a rain coat where you are going but since its small, I usually bring it just in case. Also, you’ll be wearing the 4th jacket on the airplane. For me, this would be my cardigan.

3 Shoes:

  • Black Sandals
  • Brown Sandals
  • A Closed Toe Shoe

Remember, you will be wearing your thickest pair of shoes on the airplane so, you will actually have 4 pairs of shoes!

2 Dresses + 1 Jumpsuit

  • Casual Dress
  • Fancy Night Out Dress

There is still room for underwear, socks, bras, and even a curling/straightening iron if you would like, with room to spare!

Here is how I make this all work:

Day 1: grey shirt, jeans 1, sweater, sandals
Day 2: striped shirt, overalls tennis shoes
Day 3: black shirt, jeans 2, sandals
Day 3: dress, tennis shoes
Day 4: tank top, skirt, sandals
Day 5: jumpsuit, jeans jacket, sandals

Day 6: tank top, jean 2, sandals
Day 7: striped shirt, jeans 1, tennis shoes
Day 8: dress jean jacket, sandals
Day 9: grey shirt, overalls tennis shoes
Day 10: black, sweater, jeans 2, tennis shoes

Don’t forget about the carry on liquid rules!

These are some tips with an outline of packing a carry-on for a 10 day vacation. I pack differently based on the weather and location but this is a pretty good guide for spring, summer and fall (depending on where you visit). I hope this can help you save some money on all those crazy baggage-fees and not stress over how to pack for a 10 day trip in a carry-on!
